Qitao Yang is a photographer and visual artist from China, currently based in London.
He is currently completing a BA (Hons) Photography at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. His practice works across photography, moving image, installation and book-making, with a focus on the politics of viewing and the ways images intersect with space, memory and narrative.
Working between still and moving images, Yang’s projects often take the form of experimental documentation, staged construction and visual storytelling. His work explores how personal experience, inherited images, social structures and spatial environments shape the way we look, remember and interpret.
Recent projects include After the Image: Re-seeing Les Baux, a site-based photographic project using postcards, rephotography and field research; EMPIRE, a staged photographic and moving-image project exploring labour, exploitation and cycles of power; and Childhood as Memory, a photographic book project reflecting on childhood, memory and the fragile materiality of images.
